I've been experimenting lately.
The watermelon in the fridge and the vodka in the freezer were obviously meant to be together.
Luckily, my roommate went out on a limb and bought Sierra Mist the other day.
Here's how it's made:
1 oz. watermelon chunks
1-2 oz. of vodka
Top off with Sierra Mist
A shaker is key, here, because you simply put the watermelon in the shaker with some ice and (your preference really on this) vodka and shake. WELL. Just keep shaking. I pour it all into the glass, what's left of the chunks of fruit, too. Then just top it off with some more ice and Sierra Mist and you have yourself the perfect patio cocktail. We garnished ours with some watermelon slices for good measure!
UPDATE: Since we've had an entire watermelon to work with, experiments continued. We've gladly discovered that if you replace the vodka with tequila, you have yourself a delightfully light beverage. I used a bit more Sierra Mist in this one.
One downer to this drink, though. It's no good if it gets warm. Seriously, the shaking makes all the difference. It helps to cut the watermelon into smaller slices, too. Once you perfect it, though, you'll have your friends coming back for more. Or at least mine did!
I'll go ahead and warn you, though.. In one failed experiment we used gin. Blech. No go.
It's the perfect season, so hit the pool!
Cheers!
