Down to Earth

I recently discovered Long Way Round, a documentary series that follows actors Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman on a 20,000 mile motorbike trip around the world.  Watching the adventurers cruise has been delightful.  I was already a fan of Mr. McGregor, but I had no idea how much I would like him as a person.

The two companions couldn't be more entertaining.  Despite numerous mechanical problems along the way, intimidating border guards and being literally stuck in the mud over and over, the pair rarely stops joking around.  Listening to the lessons and realities they begin to understand as faces and landscapes change has me yearning for my own big adventure.  (The whole first episode summarizes the four months they spent planning for this incredible journey and I'm giddy to make my own headquarters for travel soon!)
